Torre Zambra

The hills of Villamagna enjoy unique soil and climatic characteristics that make them among the best suited to the cultivation of native Abruzzo vineyards. Founder 'Vincenzo' planted the first vineyards of Montepulciano and Trebbiano on that plot of land around the tower and cultivated them for almost 30 years, until they were destroyed during the Second World War, bringing the family to the streets. 'Laurentino De Cerchio', Vincenzo's son-in-law, was captured by the Nazi army and taken prisoner in Germany. He returned to Villamagna in 1947 and took over a small farm and began his incessant activity as a winemaker, re-planting the old vines that had been destroyed and starting the construction of the winery that took him in 1961 to vinify the first harvest. The hills where the vineyards of the winery are grown are located in perfect south-east exposure, between 150 and 300 meters of altitude. The soils are calcareous-clayey, rich in humus and nutrients. In 2011 Villamagna was awarded Designation of Origin and is one of the smallest DOC districts in the world. This tiny area of 85 selected hectares produces a wine named Villamagna DOC from Montepulciano grapes and is considered the supreme quality expression of this great native variety of central Italy.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at 28–30°C, with a long maceration on the skins lasting 60 days.
