Oxer Bastegieta is one of the most exciting voices in modern Rioja. A Basque winegrower and oenologist, his wines are defined by a deep connection to the land, the use of indigenous varieties, and a signature style of freshness and elegance. Today, his wines are listed in many leading Spanish restaurants and Michelin-starred establishments, including the three-Michelin-starred Azurmendi by renowned chef Eneko Atxa, earning him a strong following among sommeliers who value expressive, terroir-driven Rioja.

Originally from the Basque Country, Oxer began his journey in 1999 when his father asked him to produce a small amount of txakoli from a hectare of family vines for their family restaurant in Vizcaya. His path changed in 2005 while pursuing a master’s degree in viticulture and oenology in Laguardia, where he discovered Rioja Alavesa and was captivated by the dramatic landscape beneath the Sierra de Cantabria. Since then, Oxer has divided his time between his family’s Txakoli project and crafting distinctive wines from Rioja Alavesa, with Laguardia at the heart of his vision for a new expression of Rioja.
